2022 Beanies - On Sale Now!

NRL Beanie for Brain Cancer Round

Matt callander family at ground2One of the highlights  of the National Rugby League season is the annual NRL Beanie for Brain CancerRound which was the brainchild of Matt Callander, former Nine Rugby League Executive Producer, who bravely battled stage 4 Glioblastoma himself. Matt sadly lost his battle with brain cancer in October 2017 but his legacy lives on and his idea will undoubtedly save many lives in the future.

Matt wanted to make a difference. He wanted to stop others having their lives cut short through brain cancer. So when Matt and his colleagues at Channel 9, along with the Mark Hughes Foundation, came up with the idea of selling beanies to fans to raise funds for brain cancer, the NRL did not hesitate to cooperate.

180,000 MHF beanies are sold each year during the NRL Beanie Round allowing millions of dollars to be donated to brain cancer research.

"It is with real sadness that we take on the Beanie for Brain Cancer campaign without my great mate and inspiration behind the whole round, Matt Callander," Hughes said. "Unfortunately this is the reality of brain cancer. All I can do now is work side by side with his family and make sure this Beanie for Brain Cancer round is bigger and better every year in memory of Matt. I’m sure Matt would be very proud looking down on his family who are ensuring his legacy lives on. Beanie for Brain Cancer Round urges fans to buy an MHF Beanie at selected NRL matches, online or at all NSW and QLD IGA and all Lowes stores across Australia. I encourage all rugby league fans to grab a beanie, get to a game and show your support for all those who have been affected by brain cancer."

All money raised during the Beanie for Brain Cancer Round goes directly to brain cancer research and patient support. MHF will strategically fund research projects, with the aim of doubling the survival rates and improving the quality of life for patients with brain cancer in the next 10 years.

The 2022  beanie round is scheduled for 30th June-3rd July, Round 16. To view the NRL draw click here, https://tickets.nrl.com/round/16
